A review

So I mentioned earlier the BlackSheeps, well their self titled album is now out on iTunes and I thought I would give it a review for whatever small exposure my blog gives. It comes with 13 tracks, most of which I like quite a lot!
Track 1, Punk Revolution I can't find the lyrics to translate them which is kinda annoying as I don't know what it's about, shame cause the corus is a bit corny. But don't let that put you off, Nightmare is a great track, the melodies are really nice, only thing about this is maybe the lyric about the hungry monsters eating her teddy bear for lunch? Not sure about that but very skilled overall.
Then Edwin is ok... in-between the first two tracks in my opinion, English chorus and Norwegian verse. Its ok but the lyrics are not something I would sing along to personally. One of my favourite tracks is 4, Rain in Aarhus, some really nice riffs and singing in this one. First time I saw the live track I thought it must have been a cover but its not! Hmm anyway Bak Skyen is a nice slower track but again not their fault, but have not found the lyrics.
Mama's Boy is not a ramones cover, its sort of like the Edwin track in its kind of more upbeat riffs. Then I would liken Tales from the Forest to Nightmare in its darkish (I mean not upbeat and the word scary), I really love the melodies in this one too and a clever pause.
No Milk today is a good cover, my favourite version of the track. My least favourite track is perhaps Bright as the Sun. For me the riffs and singing just arent as good as the other tracks they're just a bit more 90's generic and flat. Almost there, Cancellation is also good a nice filler track I think, then you have their signiture Ora Jaska Beana.
In addition to this I also have two bonus tracks - a cover of Gold Lion -with that Wonderwall esk guitar-, but certainly not their best cover (I've heard at least 3). And finally En Vill en, an acoustic finish. Probably where it should be on the album.
So while I may not sound that enthousiastic, I am, and notable tracks in my opinion are Nightmare, Rain in Aarhus, Tales from the Forest and No Milk Today. Thanks for listening, and in an unrelated story here is mix I made of Gwen Stefani's What You Waiting For? Over the Top of Bakerman by Laid Back:

Back to the music!

Lately I have been listening to a lot of La Roux, Portishead, Mobb Deep, and would like to share this video that I saw at a friend's;

One more post

This is amazing, the next album I buy will be Portishead's 'Third'. Both song and video are brilliant.

Discogs

Hey, a quick post just to say check out Discogs if you haven't already. I've been on there for a bit now and submitted some info and covers. It's a sort of wiki collective with an attempt to catalogue all cds/tapes/vinyls released and allows people to add selected items to wish lists that others are selling too.

If you use iTunes or Windows media player its a great place to get excellent quality covers that don't always show up in google image search, which is predominantly what I use it for.

So I bought my first song from iTunes

Yep, finally caved in a whole 79p. More unusual is the choice of song, you can listen for free below from youtube. They're called the Blacksheeps, a band from Norway who won a couple of music concerts with the song. Now the song itself is ok, I don't mean that in a bad way its good but they could easily make much better songs. If you want to get their cover of No Milk Today you can get it for free here (there's also some other covers but I wasn't so sure about them).

Thought I would make the post though because of the bands potential, the singer is awesome and I would advise you to go check them out on youtube or something. I've yet to get a lastfm account but someday... ;-)
